TRENDS & FUTURES
A large part of WISDOM is knowing what to ignore. A large part of EXPERTISE is knowing where to place your attention.
When people ask me what background prepared me to be a Forecaster and Futurist, my response is "divers".
I worked across five distinct careers in several countries and continents, always centred on future scenarios in businesses, solution management, trends and strategies. I attribute my ability to see the "big picture" to my upbringing, education and living in diverse cultures that helped me to form a systemic worldview.
I didn't intend to become a Futurist. Instead, it was an early calling based on my personality traits that made me highly suitable for this career: Extreme openness, curiosity, love of life-long learning, the ability to detect patterns where others see chaos and expert intuition, to name a few. In addition to all of these traits, my research, strategy and planning expertise are essential.
My mission is to empower your role in this fast evolving world.
I enable those who need to see, think and act on consumer trends.
I provide expertise in all aspects of the development and elevation of your businesses. My expertise across the global fashion ecosystem enables me to contribute unique 360 degree insight and highly customized research.
I decode and translate emerging future signals into commercial vision and accurate messages directly connecting to strategic opportunities.
Scouting - Trend Forecast - Future Foresight
The difference is in the timeline and how we evaluate information.
Scouting is observing what is happening now. It is concerned with what is already commercialised to various degrees by the competition.
Scouting was commonly used by large scale, highly commercialized, fast fashion organisations. But - as the traditional trend life cycle has an ever shorter life span, the validation of this practice is more and more questioned. With its limited focus on industry horizons, scouting can only lead to replicating what already exists and will weaken any organisation's overall strategic Future.
TREND FORECASTING SERVICE
A Forecaster is concerned with near- present signals and Zeitgeist to analyse what will define the next 1-2 years. Trends are temporal phenomena, and a Forecaster must master a Trend's timeline and accurately determine when and to what extent a Trend applies in a precise market scenario.
Forecasters research trans-seasonal Micro and Macro Trends and the latest
technology and innovation. Forecasters explore relevant cultural change and evolving consumer values.
Data Mining of present and historical data is of great importance to today's businesses. But - it's important to note that data can only predict within the next six months with a decent amount of certainty.
Futurists are an integral part of any business strategy and long-term planning.
Futurists look beyond the traditional industry ecosystem. This creative and evidence-based exploration is called Horizon Scanning and enables organisations to prepare for opportunities and disruption in the medium to long term.
Futurists look considerably further than the current Zeitgeist and will see the Future as very different from the present. We are deeply interested in the human condition and observe the driving forces of socioeconomic and political and technological contexts.
WHY FUTURE FORECAST?
A NEW REALITY
FOR HUMANITY & BUSINESS
The Era of Chaotic Changes and Disruptive Forces.
According to the World Economy Forum:
"We live in Times of a Technological Revolution unlike what the World has ever experienced in Human history regarding Velocity, Scope, or Impact on everything in our Lives".
At least ten revolutionary innovation platforms have surfaced in the last few years, including DNA Sequencing, Nanotechnology, Robotics, Autonomous Vehicles, 3D Printing, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain Technology and Augmented Reality.
WHY FUTURE FORECAST?
THE EXPONENTIAL ERA
We are living in one of the most exciting times in human history. Transformations appear gradual but suddenly develop exponential. This exponential growth is particularly challenging because these changes are happening at a rate difficult for the human brain to comprehend.
Our Human Minds think of growth and change in linear terms but technology explodes exponential.
Given the seismic shifts and the unprecedented and rapid social, geopolitical, and environmental challenges, future forecasting is more critical than ever.
WHY FUTURE FORECAST?
INDUSTRY ECOSYSTEMS & HORIZONS
Domain-specific knowledge at expert level is becoming more concentrated in the hands of fewer companies, and the implications are immense.
In the case that you are NOT intercepting technological, societal and environmental shifts in real-time and understand all of their ramifications by accessing, analysing and acting on information FASTER THAN YOUR COMPETITION ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD at ANY TIME - then your IGNORANCE ACCELERATES, and your opportunity horizons disappear quickly.
In the Exponential Era, staying ahead of the curve is the only way to survive. Businesses must become more visionary and imaginative and foster 'Openness' as one of the most critical personality trait.
